We have a large number of very attractive lots in our inventory, so naturally, as we put together our web site, we wanted to include a number of pictures - to show them off. To let our customers see how attractive and interesting our lots are.
So, one week we set out with a camera to take as many pictures as necessary. Only problem, when we got to each lot, we usually couldn't find a good picture to take. Since all of our lots are all heavily wooded, everywhere we looked with a camera in hand, all we could see was tree leaves.
Ever try to take a picture in the middle of a forest? We did, and it just doesn't work. We wanted to show the pretty view each lot owner would have from inside the cottage, looking out over the lake? Why that was impossible? Too many trees!
To help explain this, here's a little chronology of what happens to a lake lot:
-
First, we buy lake lots, raw pieces of land, usually loaded with trees.
-
Next, we work with a customer to pick out the ideal building site on the piece of land in our inventory that they want to buy. A lot that will give a good, pretty view of the lake.
-
Next, we clear off enough trees to give us room to construct the cottage and driveway. At that time we usually also take out as many trees as necessary, to open up a viewing corridor to the lake - often 30 feet wide. It's important that this viewing corridor be visible from inside the cottage, the screen porch and the big wrap-around front deck.
-
Finally we build the cottage on the cleared space, and turn it over to our customer.
And now, back to the picture taking problem. Each of our lots are going to have a viewing corridor to the lake -but not until after the cottage goes under construction. As you look at our lots in inventory, they are just a bunch of trees, with no view of the lake. Not much of a picture.
Regardless, we did manage to take some pictures - about a dozen in total. Take a look and you can get some some of the views from our lots. But please be aware, that the only way to really see what a lot looks like is to go and see it.
